2. What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that websites send to the user's browser, where they are stored and then sent back to the same sites on subsequent visits. They allow the site to remember the user's actions and preferences (such as language or chosen theme) for a certain period, avoiding the need to reset them each time.

3. Types of cookies used

The site ara.open-solutions.it uses exclusively technical cookies, necessary for the proper functioning of the site or to provide features requested by the user. Profiling, tracking, or marketing cookies are not used.

3.1 Technical session cookies (AWStats)

For aggregate and anonymous statistical analysis, the site uses AWStats, a tool that analyzes server logs. In the standard configuration, AWStats does not release any cookies on the visitor's browser.

In some configurations, if the awstats_misc_tracker plugin is active, the following session cookies may be generated:

  • AWSUSER_ID — technical session identifier;
  • AWSSESSION_ID — session identifier for statistics.

These cookies are strictly necessary for the generation of anonymous and aggregate statistics. They do not collect personal data and are not used to identify the user. They are limited to the single browsing session.

3.2 Theme preference (localStorage)

To remember the user's choice between light and dark theme, the site uses the browser's localStorage (and not an HTTP cookie). This is a client-side storage technology that stores the preference (ara-theme) persistently, so that on the next visit the site is displayed with the chosen theme.

This storage is purely functional and does not involve personal data.

4. Consent and legal basis

For technical cookies (such as those described above), consent is not required as they fall within the exclusion provided by Art. 82 of the GDPR and the Italian Data Protection Authority's provision on cookies. Their use is based on the legitimate interest of the Controller in ensuring the proper functioning and security of the site.

Since no profiling cookies are present, no consent banner is displayed.

5. Managing and disabling cookies
